Gymnast for the day

Earlier this year, we started Zoe in a gymnastics class... feeling like it was a good time for her to experience classroom instruction, plus get some great exercise doing something she loves. Last weekend was the last class of the semester, so I helped Zoe get all decked out for her 'Show Day'.

It was no easy feat to get that wacky, wispy hair of hers into french braids, but we managed- she was very excited about the hairdo. :)

Here she goes- over the bar....

Aunt Karen and Uncle Matt even came up from Brooklyn for the show! They managed to get a shot of Zoe getting a little bit of air on her beam routine, and posted it on their blog. You had to be quick with a camera to catch much of the actual routines!

And, we managed to get in a family shot- as you can see, little sister is growing well...

All in all, a fun day, and a great excuse for this 3 1/2 year old to get all dolled up for the day. Can you tell that she was enoying herself?

Painting in the mountains

What I loved about getting away for a few days was not having any need to keep track of time, and taking the time for long walks, reading stories to each other, and painting! We had some acryllic paints left over from our last family painting adventure, so we decided to pack up those, some paint brushes, and some cut up cardboard boxes.

We found some chairs on a hill with a great view. Zoe was our photographer for the day.... since she was also the quickest in painting her picture. She did a nice job with the pictures, didn't she?

...except of course for this one- here is what her painting looked like. Can you spot the campfire, the water, the sky, the mountains, her family, the flowers, and the forest?  All are in there- she is a modern artist. :)

"Dad, say cheese!"

"Ok mom, say cheese!"

She then proceeded to investigate our surroundings- the flowers, the bugs, the sticks- while Mike and I took another hour or so to paint. What a fun day.

A change of scenery

Last week, before we enjoyed my mom's visit, we drove up to a YMCA camp in the Adirondack mountains. It was just about a year ago that we attempted our first family trip up to the nearby mountain range.

I think it was the last week of their off season, and the last week that I'm allowed to do any traveling because of the baby on the way.

The view was beautiful, the sound of the waves and the birds instead of helicopters and sirens and shouting... it was so refreshing!

It was a little bit (a lot) too cold for a swim, but they did have the boathouse open for a few hours one afternoon, and we took out a canoe for a ride. They even had a paddle for Zoe!

Here are Zoe and I warming up before we roast our marshmallows. We all ate too many of those, I'm sure. :)

Visiting the gardens with my mom

It's been a great weekend. My mom came to visit for just a few days, and each day was filled with fun.

We visited the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens on Saturday, and were all impressed with the place. We will have to make that a more regular trip. Plus, it's free on Tuesdays and Saturday mornings!

Among the highlights of the garden were the large, climbable trees. This weeping birch was such an inviting climb.

Thanks for visiting mom! We miss you already!

On what to name the baby...

Since we are now planning on baby #2 being a girl, Eoz is out of the running for a baby name according to Zoe.

This morning, when talking about the baby, she said,

"We should name our baby Musica. Because she will love music. And if she screams when she hears music, we should just change her name."
